Together for a better internet
Torsten Krause, SDCSafer Internet Day has been held at the beginning of February every year since 2005. Originating from the European Union's SafeBorders project, the day of action is organised under the responsibility of the European Network of Safer Internet Centres INSAFE. Institutions and organisations that support the aims of Safer Internet Day offer their own events in various formats to mark the day of action in order to promote media literacy of children and young people, as well as professionals, parents and interested persons, and to raise awareness of risks on the internet and in digital environments. Safer Internet Day is now organised far beyond Europe in around 190 countries around the world.
In Germany, Klicksafe is responsible for the national coordination of the action day. Together with many national and local initiatives and organisations, the aim is to promote the responsible use of digital media and raise as much awareness as possible for the protection of young people in digital environments. To this end, Klicksafe sets a current focus every year. The motto for 2024 is "Let´s talk about porn", which aims to draw attention to the fact that young people are increasingly using the internet to find out about adolescent issues and sexuality, are often building relationships online and are increasingly having their (first) sexual experiences digitally. In addition to many other interesting events as part of Safer Internet Day, the "Gutes Aufwachsen mit Medien" (Growing up well with media) initiative of Siftung Digitale Chancen (Digital Opportunities Foundation) is also holding a digital conference on 14 February entitled "Let's talk about Sex - Selbstbestimmter Umgang mit Sexualität in digitalen Lebenswelten" (Let's talk about sex - self-determined handling of sexuality in digital environments).
