Petition against sexual abuse of children

Torsten Krause, SDC

The organisation BraveMovement has launched a petition calling for far-reaching measures in the areas of regulation, funding and support, the participation of survivors in measures to be taken and action to raise awareness of the issue in the run-up to the first First Global Ministerial Conference on ending violence against children. With its campaign, the organisation draws attention to the fact that sexual violence against children is a global challenge, as these crimes do not stop at national borders due to their organisation, implementation and dissemination in the digital environment. It points out that over 300 million children worldwide are affected by these offences and that statistically, one case of sexual abuse against children is reported every second.

Specifically, BraveMovement's petition calls for states to align their laws to enable targeted prevention, prosecution and punishment of these crimes. For example, digital service providers should be required to provide safe digital environments for young people and to report and remove material of sexual abuse. In addition, reliable funding is needed to maintain and expand reporting structures and to provide counselling and treatment for those affected. People who have experienced sexual violence should also be involved in the development of measures to prevent and combat these crimes and their perspectives should be taken into account. Furthermore, it is important to raise public awareness of this issue and spread the word about how children can be protected.

The BraveMovement petition can be signed by individuals here.
